"you're not a breast or an ass man, you're a personality man" -about me

Friday, September 27, 2002

Today I went to Genghis Khan with Dave for lunch. After that I spent some time at the Yee household, and not much after that. Around 6:30 or so Kevin, Tom, Chester, Nick, Gerald and I went to the courts to shoot around some. We didn't play any games, but it was nice getting out to do something besides go to school. No se what I'm gonna do for the rest of the night.

It seems like every once in a long while I make a post on how crappy Castro Valley High School is, so tonight the tradition continues. For some reason, that school is always in the news for something negative; first it was the racism article in a popular bay area newspaper, then the student protesting of the firing of a staff member, and the ludicrous jailbait issue. Regardless of the laundry list of issues at the school, everyone knows the politics of the high school work in an interesting way, within different people and to different levels. It is also a known fact that certain members of Castro Valley High School administration are biased to some students or racist against certain groups. This is incontrovertible. Many a time students from certain ethnic or racial backgrounds would be called in and punished in a manner different than other (read: majority) groups. Every single student knows what group of people sit on top of the pecking order; this is a fact of life at school, but there's nothing really to be done about it. Also, there have been many times where others and myself have heard (and been directly told by) staff members and teachers complain and express their negative thoughts on certain administrators. However when teachers or staff have spoken up, they were relased the next year. A good amount of the time school administration is "good" at what they do: breaking up fights, not being available when you really need them, calling you in to see them but to only actually see them an hour later, giving parking fines, making false assumptions, lying and trickery and deception (their forte), all are performed at high caliber. Ever notice the lack of administrators of certain backgrounds? Students are called in to explain themselves, and administration resorts to fallacious statements and accusations, pillaging and badging students until a forced confession is given, simply because they can't take any more crap. Any student who has had to deal with them knows this. Then there is the whole issue of being impartial, or failure of being, rather. Many students will argue they are treated unfairly.

The incident that has webbed my brother recently proves to be of prime example. In a very similar occurance in the previous year, matters and sentences were carried out way too differently. The other student (who was probably not of high standing and not well liked by teachers, as is the case here) was basically let go with a slap on the wrist; a "warning" if you will. Not so when it comes to a student with yellow skin. What happened you ask? An ensuing 5 day weekend is what happened. I realize any "wrong" doing here, and for that I almost offer an apology. I must insist however that the school takes such a matter and treats it in a consistent manner, which they have not. That is preposterous. I am utterly upset, less with the actions of both parties, but more with the school. This course of action taken is an insult, affronting, risible, a joke. Give me a break here. I am befuddled, bewildered, and besides myself. On more than one occasion some people, including myself, are not proud to enunciate that such an asinine institute for public education such as Castro Valley High School is our alma mater. As long as these well known conditions within the school aren't resolved, this will be one of those occasions.

So I was at dictionary.com (like I always am):

joke
n.
Something not to be taken seriously.
Something not said seriously, or not actually meant.

shad·y
adj.
Of dubious character.

friend
n.
A person whom one knows and trusts.

tease
v.
To arouse hope, desire, or curiosity in without affording satisfaction.
(One) who behaves like a coquette.

Make of this what you will, and take it or leave it... it's just one Chinaman's opinion.
