2006 (one-day) Snow Trip
The idea of a snowboarding day trip was first brought up during Thanksgiving. We set the date pretty much three weeks ago to give people enough time to plan accordingly. Unfortunately most had real work issues or had appointments they couldn't miss, but there will always be next time!
Thursday night Gerald, Kevin, Kevin, and I departed toward Davis around 8pm. After arriving we stopped by Safeway to purchase some snacks and drinks. Got back to Kevin's place and played a few drinking games and watched some TV before going to sleep. I think I managed to only sleep a few winks. Don't know if was because of the couch or of Gerald's snoring, or because I hadn't been awake long enough since waking up to go to sleep.
Friday morning we left around 7:15. Stopped in Auburn (the last real town before entering the mountains) to pick up some lunch from Albertson's. Those big ass sandwiches are pretty decent at eight dollars a piece. We then stopped at a McDonald's for breakfast, but due to a bus full of tourist Chinamen stopping there at the same time we decided to go to Carl's Jr. instead. The main breakfast items are pretty decent, but the tater tots can't compare with the McD hash brown. The carton of OJ was pretty terrible as well. Only ten ounces worth.
On the drive up we lost around a half hour worth of time because of a jackknifed big rig. At least it was a worthy accident. There were a lot of Caltrans vehicles plowing and blowing snow off the road.
After arriving at Boreal around 11:00, we suited up and fell in line to get lift tickets. Lost another thirty minutes because everyone was in the rental line. I guess that's one thing about following the masses; they could be wrong. After getting in the correct line, we waited about five more minutes before getting our $10 lift tickets from the counter girl who was sporting some UA type long sleeved shirt and a great rack.
Damn Gerald and his choice of route. He led us on a path that was super flat. Oh and I fell off the first lift. I blame adjusting to no stomp pad on my board. After I got up I felt my side tingling. Will go into this more later.
Anyways by the time I got to the bottom my feet were owned. I should have broken in my boots but I was a n00b. Seriously I couldn't feel the bottom of my feet. Will go into this more later. After loosening up my boots I was able to go down the run again. The only real fall I had was a suck one. I ended up in the goofy stance and when I tried to make the correction back to normal stance I ended up facing uphill and catching the back edge. Then I got owned. Now I can't lift my neck when I lay down without using my hands to pick my head up.
Passed out on the ride back, and got back to Davis around 5:00. I think most of us took a nap before departing back toward CV around 7:00. Pretty good trip. Steal of a deal. There were a few snow bunnies, but no underaged thongs like last time. Hopefully will go at least one or two more times this season.
As far as injuries go, when I wake up tomorrow I'm going to give myself a diagnosis of:
1) strained right
external oblique
2) strained
sternocleidomastoid, left and right
3) strained right
adductor longus
4) strained
plantar fascia
Prognosis: full recovery in 2-3 days. Limited overall movement until then.
